Mark Greene thinks Rush’s career is at a tipping point:
And having birthed this refreshingly honest display of his ilk’s true attitude toward women, Rush is going to get what’s coming to him. The media elites are going to do their cold cynical math on this one. They’re going to calculate the damage control, look at the numbers and they’re going to cut bait on Rush Limbaugh. Because he just lost them the 2012 Presidential and Congressional elections.
As Greene noted in the article, he’s made this prediction about Rush before. Unfortunate as it is, Rush will probably not be hurt much by this. He makes his living off of overt racism and sexism every day on his show. His listeners will give him a pass, and that’s all that matters to him. The only way to get to Rush’s success is if his listeners stop listening and loving him. Otherwise, he’ll continue to rant about the liberal media and continue putting out his “tweaks” to upset non-regular listeners.
Rush opened the door for the Breitbart and that kind of “entertainment.” Conor Friedersdorf has a great rundown of Rush’s track record regarding sexist comments, and points out that his listeners (and the GOP) let him get away with it. Quote:
I run through this history — there are more examples — so that Limbaugh apologists cannot portray these latest remarks as an aberration. They are not. This is what the man is like. He is nevertheless invited to the White House by Republican presidents, praised by conservative magazines, given honorary titles by conservative think tanks and defended by conservative bloggers.
